SEATTLE –
Week two of the outdoor season will see the Husky distance runners join the fray as Washington sends a large group to this weekend’s Stanford Invitational. In addition to the more than thirty athletes headed to Stanford, two Husky sprinters will be competing at the Texas Relays in Austin today and potentially Friday.

Heading to Texas are 400-meter hurdlers Jonathan Birchman and Cass Elliott. They will race 400m hurdle prelims today, looking to make finals for Friday at the prestigious event. Thursday prelims are set for 3 p.m. Pacific time.

Action at Stanford gets going on Friday at 9 a.m., though the first Husky in action will likely be Ida Eikeng in the shot put at 11 a.m. Always one of the top meets of the year for distance events, Friday’s action will go late into the night with 10,000-meter heats still going past 11 p.m.

Saturday, the first Husky to compete should be Tim Luebbert in the men’s triple jump at 1 p.m. Track events on Saturday include the 800-meters and 200-meters.

Along with the distance crew, Washington is also bringing its jumpers, pole vaulters, and multi athletes to Stanford. The throwers, who had an impressive opener last week in San Diego, will be off this week.

Several official in-uniform debuts are set to take place this weekend from some transfers with All-American resumes. Ed Trippas, Sam Ellis, and Kayley DeLay are all entered for their first runs in Husky singlets after competing unattached through the indoor season.
