KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The College Sports Communicators announced Wednesday that a program-record seven Tennessee track & field athletes were named to the 2023 CSC Academic All-District Team. Emily Knight, Uchechi Nwogwugwu, Sarah Schmitt, Nicole Sreenan, Canaan Anderson, Peyton Davis and Dylan Jacobs were recognized for their combined performances on the track and in the classroom.
To be nominated for track & field Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must have reached at least sophomore academic standing, attained at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point and competed in at least 50 percent of the competitions over the course of cross country, indoor track and outdoor track seasons in which they are eligible.
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced June 28 (women) and June 29 (men).
A four-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll, Knight recently completed her bachelor’s degree in Sport Management and was recognized by her college as a Volunteer of Distinction for Professional Promise. The Severna Park, Maryland, native ran a lifetime-best mark in the 800-meter in the final race of her career, clocking a time of 2:11.45 on April 29.
Nwogwugwu joined the Lady Vols last season after earning an Ivy League degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Health & Socities and rounded out her master’s in public health from UT earlier this month. She helped Tennessee qualify for the 2022 outdoor national meet in the 4×400-meter relay and will serve as an alternate on the same relay for the upcoming NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas.
Fresh off her first appearance at the NCAA East Prelims, pole vaulter Sarah Schmitt received Academic All-District recognition as a sophomore majoring in economics. The Midlothian, Virginia, native scored three points at the 2023 SEC Outdoor Championships in the pole vault and posted a lifetime-best mark of 4.10m (13-1.5) at the HPU VertKlasse Meeting, ranking seventh in program history. Additionally, Schmitt was recently chosen as a member of the 2023-24 VOLeaders Academy.
