NEW ORLEANS, La. — Tom Brady and Devin Meyrer of the University of Michigan men’s cross country team earned U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division I All-Academic honors, and the Wolverines were honored as a team for the 10th time in the last 11 years, the association announced Thursday (Jan. 27).
Brady, a junior studying computer science engineering, was Michigan’s top finisher at the 2021 NCAA Cross Country Championships with a 76th-place effort. He was 16th in the Great Lakes Regional and 17th at Big Tens.
Meyrer, a graduate student pursuing his master’s degree in interpersonal practice in integrated health, mental health & substance abuse, garnered the award for the third straight season. He was the Wolverines’ top finisher at the Big Ten and Great Lakes Regional meets in 11th and 13th, respectively.
They both earned this distinction by virtue of carrying a cumulative grade-point average greater than 3.25 and finishing with All-Region honors at the 2021 Great Lakes Regional cross country meet.
Brady and Meyrer were among 187 student-athletes — 83 men and 114 women — from NCAA Division I institutions across the country recognized with this award.
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country team, it must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or better and have started at least five runners at its respective NCAA regional championship.
The Wolverines, led by head coach Kevin Sullivan, met that standard for the eighth year in a row.
