PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State men’s and women’s track and field teams get set to split its travel for the last time this indoor season as the teams travel to compete this Friday at the Air Force Last Chance and Arkansas Qualifier. Washington State athletes combined own eight times/marks that rank in the top-25 in the nation so far this season and are coming off of a weekend that saw five individual event wins at the Whitworth Invitational from The Podium, as well as Zenah Cheptoo’s program-record 9:06.98 on night one of the Husky Classic at Dempsey Indoor.
With only two weekends remaining before selection for the 2024 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships (Mar. 8-9), athletes must crack the nation’s top-16 in their respective individual events, or the top-12 of relay events, in order to qualify for nationals. Washington State men’s and women’s track and field teams combined for an additional 10 personal-best times and marks last Saturday to close out the Husky Classic and Whitworth Invitational. The weekend began Friday with the third-fastest men’s indoor 5,000m (13:53.0) time in Cougar history from Brian Barsaiya, and Zenah Cheptoo’s season-best 9:06.98 in the women’s 3,000m run, lowering her school record that was set in her Cougar debut at the Lauren McCluskey Open.
