Gates, LaCoste, O'Riley Named CSC Academic All-District

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona Track and Field had three athletes named College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District, as announced today by the organization.

The Wildcats selected by CSC as members of the Academic All-District Team include Emma Gates, Pierce LaCoste, and Jared O’Riley.

Gates posted the 8th-best jump in the high jump (1.88m) in the 2024 Pac-12 Championships to advance to the NCAA West First Round. Her mark is a personal best and lifted her to the Pac-12 Championship in the high jump. Gates finished 18th in the NCAA West First Round with a jump of 1.76m.

LaCoste jumped the seventh-farthest long jump in the nation (7.98m) at the 2024 Jim Click Shootout. His jump in that meet marked a personal best and lifted him to a win with the fourth-best mark in program history. LaCoste qualified for the NCAA West First Round and finished 25th with a jump of 7.49m.

O’Riley earned the NCAA West First Round qualification with a 69.75m (40th nationally) javelin throw at the 2024 Desert Heat Classic. He finished 13th and missed out on advancing to his third NCAA Championships. O’Riley’s best throw in the NCAA West First Round was 68.76m.

CSC CRITERIA
The criteria included those athletes with a top-50 individual performance nationally and a GPA above 3.50 (on a 4.0 scale). Student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically to qualify. A graduate student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average as both an undergraduate and grad student unless they are in their first semester as a graduate student and don’t have an established graduate GPA.

Note: only individual performances are to be used for eligibility. Suppose a student-athlete has participated in a relay event which is ranked in the Top 50. In that case, that can bolster a nomination but the basic criteria to be met is for individual performances.
