Impressive Return Earns Vringer Big 12 Runner of the Week

DALLAS – Utah cross country’s Erin Vringer was named the Big 12 Runner of the Week on Tuesday after leading the Utes to a second-place finish at a loaded Nuttycombe Invitational last Friday behind a PR run of 20:14.2 in the women’s 6k race for sixth-overall as an individual.

This is Utah’s first weekly honor in its inaugural season as a member of the Big 12 Conference as well Vringer’s first weekly award of her young career.

Last Friday’s race at the Nuttycombe Invitational was the Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, product’s first cross country race since competing at the 2022 NCAA Championships after redshirting the 2023 campaign. For reference of Vringer’s ascent, the redshirt sophomore finished 171st-overall as an individual at the Nuttycombe Invitational her freshman year (2022) with a time of 21:21.3.

Vringer opened the race last week sitting in at No. 23 through the first 2000m before passing 17 runners in the final 4k of the race – including a handful in the final 100m of the race to finish sixth individually.

Vringer and the Utes are back in action on Friday, Oct. 11, when it flies to the PNW to compete at the Bill Dellinger Invitational at Pine Ridge Golf Course. Utah will also have a small contingent compete that same day back in the Beehive State at the Steve T. Reeder Invitational in Logan.
