Five Things to Know: Badgers Travel to Chicago for Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational

Ten Badgers Named CSC Academic All-District

MADISON, Wis. – The No. 18 Wisconsin men’s cross country team returns to action Friday at the 45th Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational in Chicago. The Men’s Championship 8K will start at 10:40 a.m., while the Men’s 8K Open is set to begin at 12 p.m.

1. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Badgers are back in action for their second race away from Madison, fourth race of the season. UW won the Big Ten Preview last month at Illinois as Christian de Vaal earned individual honors. 

2. A LOOK BACK: Three-time Big Ten Champion Bob Liking picked up his third collegiate cross country win, finishing with a time of 23:26.6, at last season’s Lakefront Invitational. UW also won the team title a year ago. 

3. WARMING UP: Redshirt freshman, Nick Gilles, has competed in all three meets this season. The Minnetonka, Minnesota native has placed top-15 in all of them.

4. PRE-NATS SEASON: With Wisconsin Pre-Nationals and Big Ten Championships on the horizon, the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational provides an opportunity for the Badgers to continue building to peak performance. UW will face two other ranked teams at the meet including No. 10 Alabama and regional-rival No. 14 Butler. 

5. LOOKING AHEAD: The Badgers return home for Wisconsin Pre-Nationals at the Zimmer Championship Course on Saturday, Oct. 19. Racing will begin at 10 a.m.
