Seven Tar Heels Set To Compete In Oregon



CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Seven Tar Heels are set to compete at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which open on Wednesday in Eugene, Ore.  
 
James Joycey, a senior from Kew, Victoria, Australia, will compete in the men’s hammer throw, which leads off the championships on Wednesday afternoon. Finals action begins at 2 p.m. PT.
 
Jesse Hunt, a graduate student from Perth, Western Australia, will compete in the men’s 1,500 meters. The semifinals of that event are set for Wednesday at 4:46 p.m. PT/7:46 p.m. ET.
 
Jill Shippee will return to Eugene to compete in the women’s hammer, an event in which she placed third last year. A graduate student from Clifton Park, N.Y., she earned All-America second team honors in the hammer throw at the 2022 Indoor Championships. Shippee competes on Thursday beginning at 3 p.m. PT.
 
Sasha Neglia will make her first NCAA Track & Field Championship appearance, competing in the women’s 3000M steeplechase. A sophomore from Kingsport, Tenn., she has competed twice at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. Semifinals for the steeplechase start on Thursday at 6:02 p.m. PT.
 
Madison Wiltrout will compete in the women’s javelin. The graduate student from Connellsville, Pa., is competing in Eugene for the second year a row after placing 16th in javelin in 2021. She competes on Thursday at 6:45 p.m. PT.
 
Anna Keefer will compete in the long jump at outdoor championships after earning All-America honors in that event during the indoor season. The senior from St. Michael Albertville, Minn., placed eight in the long jump at NCAA Indoor Championships in March. She competes on Thursday at 7 p.m. PT.
 
Alex Ostberg, a graduate student from Darien, Conn., will compete in the men’s 5,000 meters, which is set for Friday at 7:55 p.m. PT.
