Irish Collect Multiple Event Titles at Notre Dame Invitational – Notre Dame Fighting Irish – Official Athletics Website

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Notre Dame track and field team finished the day in the top three in the final score of the 2023 Notre Dame Invitational.. The women’s team finished in second place and the men finished in third place, where the Irish collected six event titles across both teams.

Emma Albano took third place in the weight throw with a mark of 15.89, with her best throw coming in the third round.  In the women’s shot put, Albano claimed second place with a toss of 12.83m and teammate Ava Butterbaugh took third place with a mark of 12.72m. Alesis Juntunen hit a mark of 12.25 for fifth place.

The women’s mile run was led by Anna Sophia Keller who took second place in the event. She ran for a time of 4:48.02. Kaitlin Ryan (4:55.19) and Molly Grant (4:56.11) were right behind as they took third and fourth place respectively. Elizabeth Schmidt crossed the finish line at 5:17.75. In the men’s mile run, Carter Cheesman led the Irish and the event taking first place with a time of 4:07.91. Luke Schildmeyer took fifth place with a time of 4:16.96 and Gabe Hinrichs took ninth with a time of 4:22.46.

Eve Balseiro led the Irish with a first place finish in the 400 meter run. She crossed the finish line at 55:35. Teammates Molly Bennet and Remy Finn finished in fifth and sixth place, respectively, with times of 58.23 and 58.26. In the men’s 400 meter run, Joey Dobrydney took third place, crossing the finish line at 49.16. John Oleksak finished in 49.33 with Matthew Cornelius and Luke Phillips finishing at 50.40 and 50.53, respectively.

The men’s weight throw saw Michael Shoaf take second place with a toss of 20.49m. Blake Kusky and Matthew Teague hit marks of 18.98m and 16.29m. Shoaf took first place in the men’s shot put with a mark of 18.17m. Henry Boudreau claimed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 16.17m.

Reese Sanders represented the Irish in the 60 meter hurdles race taking fourth place with a time of 9.03. Shae Douglas crossed the finish line at 25.14 in the women’s 200 meter dash for fifth place, and Jessica Coughlin finished at 29.44. Paul Baynes represented the Irish in the men’s 200 meter dash with a time of 22.76.

The Irish dominated in the women’s 3000 meter race taking first through fourth place. Siona Chisholm led the Irish across the finish line at 9:16.46 followed by Katie Thronson at 9:22.56, Sophi Novak at 9:35.56, and Erin Strzelecki at 9:40.55.
