FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Ole Miss track & field concluded a busy weekend of action across the country with solid performances all around at Arkansas’ Tyson Invitational, Vanderbilt’s Music City Challenge, and the 115th running of the Millrose Games in New York City on Saturday.
The performance of the day for the Rebels came at Arkansas, where freshman Logan Kelley put on a show in the open section of the men’s pole vault. Kelley won at a massive nine-inch PR of 5.32m/17-05.50, which also registers as nearly one foot better than his prior collegiate best of 5.05m/16-06.75. Kelley was clean over his first bar of the day at 4.95m/16-02.75 before hitting on second attempts at new PRs of both 5.12m/16-09.50 and 5.22m/17-01.50. At his newest PR of 5.32m/17-05.50, Kelley sailed straight over on his first attempt to seal victory.
Kelley’s clearance today puts him at No. 3 all-time in Ole Miss history indoors, trailing only Olympian Sam Kendricks (5.70m/18-08.25; 2014) and Peyton Weissmann (5.35m/17-06.50; 2020). Furthermore, Kelley now stands as the best Rebel freshman pole vaulter ever indoors, and combined he trails only four outdoor clearances by Kendricks his freshman season in 2012.
This season, that height currently puts Kelley No. 16 in the NCAA, No. 2 in the SEC, and No. 1 among all NCAA Division I freshmen.
Also having career days at Arkansas on Saturday were senior McKenzie Long in the women’s 200-meter, who become the No. 2 performer in school history indoors at 23.29 (eighth place), as well as sophomore Iangelo Atkinstall-Daley in the men’s triple jump, who finished ninth at a PR of 15.26m/50-00.75 to take sole possession of No. 15 all-time at Ole Miss.
Over at Vanderbilt, All-American senior Jalani Davis notched a season-best in the invitational section of the women’s shot put. Davis was the runner-up to reigning NCAA Outdoor champion Adelaide Aquilla of Ohio State (17.79m/58-04.50), tossing 17.58m/57-08.25 on her fifth attempt. With that throw, Davis moves up to No. 6 in the NCAA and takes over the lead in the SEC this year.
Ole Miss also had several excellent performances in the seeded sections of the 3K races at Vanderbilt. In the men’s 3K, seniors Anthony Camerieri and Shane Bracken were impressive again just one day after both broke the four-minute barrier in the mile. Camerieri won…
