Mizzou Cross Country Begins Season With Pair of Top Three Finishes


COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri Cross Country began its 2022 season with a pair of top three-finishes in the Mizzou XC Opener on Thursday at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course.

Missouri’s men’s squad earned 64 points to take third in the 6k. Five Tiger runners notched a top 15 finish to bolster the team’s point total. Missouri’s women compiled 81 and also claimed the third position in the season-opening 5k.

TOP TIGERS

Marquette Hanson (Warrensburg, Mo.) ran the fastest time for the men’s team and earned a 10th-place finish. The senior gained 11 spots after the first 1k split. 

The pack of Blake Morris (Cape Girardeau, Mo.), Trevor Peimann (Wentzville, Mo.), Jack Warner (Kansas City, Mo.) and Dan Brookling (Arborfield Cross, England) crossed the finish line not long after to secure 12th through 15th place.

On the women’s side, Isabelle Christiansen (Oswego, Ill.) paced Missouri with an 11th-place finish. Jenna Schwartz (Waterloo, Ill.), Reilly Revord (Hinsdale, Ill.), Allison Newman (Germantown, Tenn.) and Ginger Murnieks (Lee’s Summit, Mo.) rounded out the Tigers’ top 5.

Missouri will travel to Indiana State to race in the John McNichols Invitational on Sept. 17 at the LaVerne Gibson Cross County Course in Terre Haute, Ind.
