Panthers Open 2022 With Home Meet At Schenley Park Friday Morning

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh men’s and women’s cross country programs will officially open up their 2022 campaigns Friday morning. The two teams will play host to Carnegie Melon and Davis and Elkins College Friday morning in the Panther Opener at Schenley Park.

The Panther Opener meet will feature free admission for all fans. The men’s 5k race will begin at 8:45am followed by the women’s 5k race at 9:15 am. The address for the Shenley Park is 1 Overlook Dr, Pittsburgh, PA 15217. The course will consist of a loop located at the Schenley Park, starting from the oval to the disc golf course area and finishing near the oval once again.

The men’s squad returns seven letter winners from a season ago led by Jack Miller, Peyton Geehrer, Luke Henseler, Ethan Maher, Sam Otis, Finn Walsh, and Quintin Gatons. Miller led the squad in all five meets a season ago as he earned All-Region honors for the first time in his career. Henseler finished off his season strong with a 37th place finish at the Regional Meet while Maher and Otis took home 38th and 39th places respectively.

Pitt men will welcome five newcomers including Monmouth transfer Luke Miller who earned MAAC Most Outstanding Rookie after posting a 21st place finish at the MAAC Championships. Luke is the younger brother of team captain Jack Miller. The Panthers will be looking forward to seeing what incoming freshmen Alex Holbrook, Ethan Feinstein, Ethan Fingerhut, and Damian Frausto can bring to the table this season.

The women’s squad returns 13 runners who competed for Pitt during the 2021 campaign. They will be led by returners Ellen Baker, Caroline Bolen, Mary Borkoski, Emily Brown, Isabella Bufalini, Sadie Carey-Tharp, Reagan Flannery, Sarah Hurst, Winnie Incorvaia, Mia Ingalls, Emily Jobes, Caroline Rusinski, and Michaela Schiele.  Jobes, Brown, and Rusinski will be promising leaders after a strong finish to the season at last year’s regional meet.

Pitt will be welcoming five newcomers including Kansas transfer Claire Hoffman and Virginia Tech transfer Allison Zolkiewicz. The Panthers will be looking forward to their incoming freshmen class that features Gianna Cagliola, Anna Cohen, and Elizabeth Hunkele.

Pitt will head to Charlottesville, VA for the Virginia Invitational at Panorama Farms on Friday, September 16.
