2022 RunBlogRun Fall Cross Country Training & Racing Program, Week 3, Day 3

2022 RunBlogRun Summer Cross Country Mileage Program, Week Six, Day Five

This is Week Three, Day 3 of the 2022 RunBlogRun Fall Cross Country Training & Racing program provided by RunBlogRun. We will provide cross-country training suggestions until late December 2022 (21-22 weeks).

Today is September 14, 2022. It is a recovery day and the third day of week two of our 2022 Fall Cross Country Training & Racing program.

Tapio Raitanen had the weight of all of Finland on his shoulders in the Men’s steeple final last month at the 2022 European Athletics Championships. Finland had a great tradition in the steeple, taking Olympic gold from 1924-1936, and then, Tapio Kantanen took bronze in 1972 behind Kip Keino and Ben Jipcho. The only gold medalist in EA champs was back in 2006 with Jukka Keskisalo.

Tapio stayed close behind the three Italians, brothers Osama and Ala Zoghlami, and teammate Ahmed Abdelwahed. Raitanen waited until the last water barrier, clearing it with precision and, gaining a meter. or two, flew off the barrier into the shallowest part of the water jump. The Flying Finn did not stop and cleared the last barrier moving away from the three Italians, giving Finland its first European champion in sixteen years! How’s that for drama?

Your workout today, warm up, 45-50 minutes of good running on trails, then, 6 x 150 meter stride outs, plus a slow cooldown.
