COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the second time this season and third time in her career, Addie Engel, a junior on the Ohio State cross country team, has been named Big Ten Athlete of the Week. Engel placed second at the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by Minnesota last Friday, her third Top 2 finish in a row.
At the Roy Griak Invitational Engel was just 5.9 seconds back of the race winner from Utah in a time of 20:39.1 for the 6K. The Buckeyes finished fifth as a team, as Engel was joined by Daniella Santos and Andrea Kuhn in the Top 10.
Engel, from Springfield, Ohio, and a graduate of Central Catholic High School, has placed in the Top 5 in 7 of her last 10 races, and in the Top 16 in all but NCAAs in the stretch, including at Big Tens and regionals last year.
Engel was named the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week and Big Ten Athlete of the Week after winning the Big Ten Preview Sept. 9 and earned conference athlete of the week accolades in Sept 2021. She was an All-Big Ten and All-Great Lakes Region honoree last year and earned an individual berth into the NCAA Championships.
This week, the No. 25-ranked Buckeyes race at the Lakefront Invitational hosted by Loyola Friday.
