This and That

  • New national U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings were not released last week. Last week, the Ohio State women were No. 24 (tied) after entering the poll at No. 25 Sept. 20 and remaining there the next release. The women’s squad started the year receiving votes in the poll.
  • In the Great Lakes Region poll last week, the women were No. 4, behind Notre Dame, Michigan State and Michigan. The men were 14th in the region.
  • The Buckeyes last raced Sept. 30 at the Lakefront Invitational in Chicago. The women, despite holding out their top three runners from the season’s first three races, finished second, with all five counters in the Top 24. Akemi Von Scherr was second overall to lead the squad, followed by Morgan Schmitt in seventh and Audrey DeSantis in 10th. The men also finished second as a team. All five Buckeye counters, and the first six Ohio State runners, were among the Top 23, led by Nathaniel Tamminga in eighth.
  • Addie Engel is a two-time Big Ten Athlete of the Week and earned USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week accolades this season. She has placed in the Top 5 in seven of her last 10 races, and in the Top 16 in all but NCAAs in the stretch (where she was 66th at her first NCAA meet), including at Big Tens and regionals last year.
  • The trio of Engel, Daniella Santos and Andrea Kuhn were the Buckeyes’ Top 3 finishers, in that order, in the first three races of the season. They did not run at Loyola. All three finished in the Top 10 in the three races.
  • Nathaniel Tamminga has been among the Buckeyes’ Top 3 finishers in the three races he has run this season. Zubin Jha and Ivan Slyepkan both have been among the Buckeyes’ Top 3 finishers twice.
