TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No.24 Florida State women’s cross country team has been selected as one of the 31 squads that will race in the 2022 NCAA Championships on Nov. 19, in Stillwater, Okla. The field was unveiled by the NCAA on Saturday.
The Seminoles punched their fifth-straight ticket to nationals after securing the second automatic qualifying spot out of the South Region on Friday.
Led by three all-region performances, FSU finished second at the NCAA South Region Championships with a total of 88 points.
Emmy Van den Berg led the way, finishing in sixth place (19:47.70) followed by Alyson Churchill (19.59.70) in 11th and Agnes McTighe in 14th (20:02.80).
“We are thrilled to be heading to Stillwater this coming week for the NCAA Championships,” FSU women’s distance coach Baylee Mires said. “Our ladies are energized and ready for the challenge on the national stage.”
Fearghal Curtin was awarded a spot in the men’s 10k after finishing in sixth place at regionals on Friday with a time of 29:30.00. This will be his second NCAAs after qualifying in 2021 while representing Charleston Southern
“Fearghal has been a steady elite runner all year,” FSU head coach Bob Braman said. “This berth is a fitting reward for his outstanding season.”
The women’s 6k will take place at 10:20 a.m., at the Oklahoma State Cross Country Course. The men’s 10k will follow at 11:10 a.m. The race will air on ESPNU with coverage beginning at 10 a.m.
