No. 17 Buckeyes Set for NCAA Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 17-ranked Ohio State women’s cross country team is heading to Stillwater, Okla., for the 2022 NCAA Championships. The Buckeyes earned an automatic spot after finishing second in the Great Lakes Regional.

The women’s championship, a 6K, will be run at 10:20 a.m. ET Saturday. The race will be televised by ESPNU and available on WatchESPN and the ESPN app, with coverage starting at 10 a.m. ET. Live results will be available HERE.

Ohio State and the NCAA Championships

  • This is the fourth appearance for the Ohio State women at the NCAA Championships. The 2009 squad was also an automatic qualifier, while the 2014 and 2019 squads earned at-large berths.
  • The 2009 team placed 29th, the 2014 squad was 26th and the 2019 Buckeyes were 23rd.
  • Two Ohio State teams – in 1975 and 1980 – competed as a squad at the AIAW Championships prior to the start of NCAA competition for women.
  • Addie Engel, a sophomore this year, was an individual qualifier last season, placing 66th at her first NCAA meet. She was the seventh Buckeye to qualify as an individual since 2010 and the ninth all-time.
  • Kathy Monard placed ninth at the 1986 NCAA race, earning All-America honors with the highest finish in school history.
  • Maureen Cogan, who was 34th in 1983, was the first Buckeye to earn NCAA All-America honors. She also earned AIAW All-America accolades in 1981 after placing 22nd. Susan Mallery was eighth at the AIAW inaugural cross country event in 1975.
  • Katie Borchers recorded two Top 40 finishes, placing 40th in 2013 and 34th in 2014, to become the Buckeyes’ first two-time All-American.

All-Big Ten and All-Region Buckeyes

  • The Buckeyes’ Top 3 runners this season – Addie Engel, Daniella Santos and Andrea Kuhn – all earned First Team All-Big Ten and Great Lakes All-Region accolades. The trio placed in the Top 10 in the six races they ran this year.
  • Engel, from Springfield, Ohio, finished as the runner-up at the regional, running a personal-best time of 19:57.8 in the 6k, and is now a two-time all-region selection. She is the sixth Buckeye to earn all-region honors at least twice. Engel was the 2022 Big Ten Champion, the first conference title in program history, to earn her second All-Big Ten honor. She finished first or second in all six meets this season.
