LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Notre Dame Fighting Irish track and field team wraps up a successful weekend at the PNC Lenny Lyles Indoor Invitational. The Irish finished with 23 top ten finishes and claimed four event titles. Notre Dame also set four facility records in the women’s 800 meter and the men’s 3000 meter.
Alaina Brady kicks things off with a first place finish in the pentathlon 60 meter hurdles. She tallied a time of 8.70. Shae Douglas posted a 25.65 in the women’s 200 meter while Paul Baynes finished at 22.59 in the men’s race.
Three team members represented the Fighting Irish in the men’s 400m and the women’s 400 meter. Joey Dobrydney, Luke Phillips and Matt Cornelius represented the men’s team, and Eve Balseiro, Remy Finn, and Molly Bennet ran for the women’s team. Dobrydney crossed the finish line 49.22 followed by Phillips at 51.38, and Cornelius at 52.24. Balseiro led the women’s team with a time of 56.49, then came Finn at 59.06 and Bennet at 58.77.
The men’s and women’s 800 meter race was represented well by the Irish. The men’s team had four members run, Jackson Story, Nick Miller, Daelen Ackley, and Gabe Hinrichs. Story finished in eighth place with a time of 1:51.68, and Miller finished right behind him with a time of 1:51.81. Ackely and Hinirichs finished at 1:52.63 and 2:02.00, respectively. On the women’s side Kaitlin Ryan, set a facility record when she took second place in the race with a time of 2:06.59. The previous facility record was 2:08.30. Molly Grant and Reese Sanders also ran in the race taking eighth and eighteenth with times of 2:12.25 and 2:15.69.
Sophie Novak claimed the title in the women’s one mile run and John Schuler claimed first place for the men’s one mile run. Novak crossed the finish line at 4:47.76 and Schuler finished at 4:07.22. Paige Grant ran in the women’s race finishing at 4:55.28. CJ Singleton, Nick Miller, Nick Mota, Daelen Ackely, and Gabe Hinrichs all represented the Irish in the men’s race. Singleton claimed second place with a time of 4:08.66. Right behind Singleton was Miller who crossed the finish line at 4:10.47. Mota posted a time of 4:13.41, Ackley finished in 4:17.18, and Hinrichs finished with a time of 4:17.96.
The men’s 3000m saw three Irish break the facility record. The previous record was 8:09.46, and Ethan Coleman, Carter Cheeseman, and Kevin Berry all posted record breaking times. Colman finished in 7:58.67, Cheeseman posted a 7:59.84…
