Tech Heads to Tom Jones Memorial Meet – Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech track and field returns to Florida this weekend for the Tom Jones Memorial Meet on Friday, April 14 and Saturday, April 15.

Last time out, the Jackets competed at Georgia’s Spec Towns Invite and Lee University’s Flames Invite.

At Georgia, Tech earned top three finishes in three events starting with a third-place finish by Jameson Miller in the men’s 400m. In the 800m, Tech took home the second and third place spots in the women’s (Kayla Rose, Allie Walker) and men’s (Chris Cherono, Harrison Fultz) races,

The women dominated the 5000m at the Flames Invite led by Helena Lindsay who won the event. Tech also claimed the third, fourth and fifth place spots in the race. On the men’s side, James Cragin earned a third-place finish in the event. Erin Fegans also put up an impressive performance in the women’s 10,000m, crossing the finish line in 14th place.

Many Jackets will be traveling the Tom Jones Memorial Meet to compete in a variety of track and field events. Tech will begin the meet on Friday with Jamir Gibson in the men’s hammer throw at 1 p.m. The team will resume competition on Saturday, starting with Gibson in the men’s discus.

Eight Jackets currently rank in the top 50 nationally for performances in their respective events.

WOMEN: Sheleah Harris (100m, 50th), Helena Lindsay (3000m SC, 26th), Shanty Papakosta (High Jump, 32nd)

MEN: Zach Jaeger (3000m SC, 37th), Cole Miller (3000m SC, 50th), Cameron O’Neal (Long Jump, 8th), John Watkins (Triple Jump, 26th), Jamir Gibson (Discus, 23rd & Shot Put, 47th)
