Anderson Wins Music City Challenge 1,500m, Moves Up Program Charts


NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee track & field junior Canaan Anderson turned in a victorious performance over 1,500 meters Friday night in Nashville, clocking a personal-best time of 3:42.26 to place first overall in a field of 31 at the Music City Challenge hosted by Vanderbilt University.
 
The Murfreesboro native lowered his lifetime-best by 0.2 seconds, moving up one spot on UT’s all-time outdoor list to No. 3 in program history. His time ranks No. 9 in the Southeastern Conference this season and currently sits No. 50 on the NCAA East Region qualifying list.
 
Vol redshirt senior Jacob Lewis competed unattached in the event and finished second behind Anderson with a time of 3:44.67. True freshman Yordanos Zelinski was fifth with a time of 3:49.13 to round out UT’s athletes competing Friday night in the state capital.
 
Action from Vanderbilt continues Saturday with eight Vols and Lady Vols running the 800-meter, beginning with the women at 4:40 p.m. ET and wrapping up with the men at 5 p.m.
 
The Big Orange will also compete all day Saturday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at the LSU Invitational. Chandler Hayden leads the meet off in the women’s hammer throw at 11:30 a.m. ET, and the one-day meet will conclude with the men’s 4×400-meter relay at approximately 6:55 p.m.
