Three-Time Olympic Medalist And Model Dies

Tori Bowie, who rose to not only inhabit the title ‘World’s Fastest Woman’ but also make her mark in the modeling world, has died at the age of 32. Her management agency, Icon Management, confirmed the news early Wednesday.
Bowie, who was born in Sandhill, Miss., overcame a difficult childhood to become one of the most popular track and field athletes of the 2010s before receding from public life.
A news report in Florida indicated she was found Tuesday in a home in Winter Garden after not being heard from for several days. There were no signs of foul play.
Bowie won the 100 meters at the World Athletics Championships in London in 2017, leaning so hard at the finish line to beat Marie-Josée Ta Lou of Ivory Coast that she fell to the ground beyond the finish line, in 10.85 seconds. The year prior, she won the U.S. title in the 100 meters and three Olympic medals at the Rio Games — gold in the 4×100 relay, silver in the 100 meters and bronze in the 200 meters.
Bowie also enjoyed success in the long jump and made her final appearance on a global stage at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar in that event, finishing fourth.
She had been a two-time NCAA long jump champion at Southern Mississippi in 2011, sweeping the Division 1 indoor and outdoor titles.
Her modeling career included a campaign for the designer Valentino.
After her 2019 season, Bowie receded from public view. She didn’t make a social media post in the past three and a half years.
She made one final appearance on the track in 2022, running 23.60w at the Star Athletics Sprint Series #1 at Montverde Academy in Florida last June 4.
