Nathan Lopez Doubles Up Mile And 2-Mile Victories At MIAA Meet of Champions

Nathan Lopez completed his high school career for Saint John’s Prep by winning the mile in 4:12.99 and the 2-mile in a meet record time of 8:59.29 at the MIAA All-State Track and Field Meet of Champions, June 1-3 at Fitchburg State College. He also was part of the winning 4×800 relay (7:52.13).
In the boys 100 meters, Darwin Jimenez of Methuen edged out Christopher Brooks of Wellesley, 10.66 to 10.69 for the victory. Brooks came back later to win the 200 in 21.42.
Jacob Cookinham of Bishop Strang, one of the top shot putters in the country, threw 65-8 to win the state crown.
Sean Golembiewski from Hopkinton dominated the hurdles, winning both the 110-meter highs in 14.49 and the 400-meter intermediates in 53.82.
Brandon Riley of Weymouth won the boys pentathlon with 3,402 points.
Amelia Everett of Newton South won the girls 800 meters in 2:11.62 and the mile in 4:54.02.
Sarah Claflin of Pembroke won the girls 100 meters in 12.01 seconds.
Grace Hanafin from Burlington won the long jump with 18-11.25.
In the pentathlon, Sarah Dumas of Franklin scored 3,341 points to win the event.
