Comin Pescador Wins Spanish Decathlon Title

SEATTLE — Husky All-American Bruno Comin Pescador struck Spanish gold today as he won the decathlon title at the Spain national championships in Valencia. Comin Pescador set a new career-best with a two-day score of 7,979 points, the new No. 4 mark in UW history.
 
Comin Pescador wore his UW singlet while navigating the 10 events on Friday and Saturday. On day one, he opened with a time of 10.95 in the 100-meters, then long jumped 23-0 ¾. In the shot put, he threw 47-10 ½ a new personal-best. He followed that with another PR in the high jump, clearing 6-9. Day one was capped with a solid time of 49.49 in the 400-meters.
 
Starting day two, Coming Pescador ran 14.77 for the 110m hurdles and then added a foot to his discus PR, going 143-3. After clearing a strong 15-1 in the pole vault, he went 184-7 in the javelin, just a couple inches off his lifetime-best. With a slim lead going into the final 1,500-meter run, he needed to finish within two seconds of the second-place competitor. Comin Pescador was up to the challenge, coming across the line in second-place, by just a fraction of a second, in 4:31.48, a four-second personal-best.
 
It’s the first senior national title in the decathlon for Comin Pescador, who previously won the Spanish U23 Championship.
