Maatoug Runs to Ninth-Place Finish at NCAA Cross Country Championships

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Amina Maatoug put the bow on another stellar Duke cross country season Saturday as the junior turned in another incredible performance on the 6K course, this time running to a ninth-place finish of 19:29.9 at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. The ninth-place finish at the national meet is the highest placement by a Duke cross country runner all-time.

Maatoug, who earns USTFCCCA All-America status for the second consecutive year, matched her 6K personal best and improved 19 spots from her 2022 placement. She becomes just the fifth Duke corss country runner to earn consecutive All-America plaudits and the first since Juliet Bottorff (2012-13).

From the opening gun, Maatoug positioned herself among the top of the field, making strategic moves throughout the race to move up the leaderboard.  The Leiden, Netherlands product made her biggest climb between the 3K and 4K markers jumping five spots up the individual standings. Maatoug rose five more spots across the final 2K and finished the race strong to lock down the top-10 finish.
