Butler secures fifth First Team All-America award


EUGENE, Ore. – The Virginia Tech women’s track and field team closed out the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, June 7 at Hayward Field. 

Senior Lindsey Butler ends her college career finishing seventh in the 1500m with a time of 4:09.85.  

Butler led the race through the first 700-meters before falling towards the end of the pack. In the final 100m, she went to the outside lane and made a last effort kick to get into seventh by the finish line.  

She qualified for the finals running 4:08.31 in the prelims, advancing on time. 

Butler leaves her mark on Virginia Tech as a five-time First Team All-American having made seven career appearances at the NCAA Championships. Her career is highlighted by a first-place finish in the 800m at the 2022 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.  

Butler holds the school records in the indoor 800m (2:01.23), 1000m (2:41.00), mile (4:31.41), distance medley relay (10:52.51), and outdoor 1500m (4:07.96).  

Members of the Virginia Tech men’s and women’s track and field will return to Eugene on June 21 – 30 for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials.
