Jasmine Blair Just Misses Final Qualifying Spot

EUGENE, Ore. – California women’s track and field volunteer assistant coach Elena Bruckner advanced to the finals of the women’s discus with her performance in the event’s first round at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials on Monday at Hayward Field. Bruckner’s qualifying throw of 61.35 meters came on her first of two attempts before she passed on her third throw.

Bruckner placed fifth out of the 21 first-round participants with the top 12 advancing to Thursday’s finals that begin at 4:50 p.m. PT. The top three finishers in Thursday’s finals will earn a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team if they have also met the Olympic standard or are in the world rankings quota.

Jasmine Blair, a fifth-year senior on the 2023-24 California women’s track and field team, just missed on joining Bruckner in Thursday’s finals. Blair finished 13th in Monday’s first round only one spot and 0.31 meters behind the final qualifier.
