Cal Discus Record-Holder Earns Berth Through World Rankings

California track & field rising redshirt senior Caisa-Marie Lindfors is officially headed to her first Olympic Games, where she will compete in the discus, as announced on Wednesday by Svensk Friidrott (Swedish Athletics).

Lindfors, who owns the women’s discus and indoor shot put records for the Golden Bears, transferred to Cal from Florida State for the 2024 season. Her outdoor campaign included a national No. 4 ranking in the discus, a Pac-12 bronze medal and a Brutus Hamilton Invitational meet record of 61.09m (200-5). Following the NCAA season, she placed 10th at the European Athletics Championships and second at the Swedish Championships. She later traveled to Falun, Sweden, to compete at the DSA Elit 11 meet and increased her personal best to 62.48m (205-0) to close out the Olympic qualification window at No. 32 in the world rankings.

“It really feels fantastic,” Lindfors said in an interview with Svensk Friidrott. “The Olympics is something you dream of as an athlete, and it feels great to be able to say that you are going to the Olympics.”

Lindfors joins a growing group of Cal track & field athletes headed to Paris. Alumni Camryn Rogers (Canada – women’s hammer), Rowan Hamilton (Canada – men’s hammer) and Georgia Bell (Great Britain – women’s 1500m) have already been officially announced, while rising redshirt junior Mykolas Alekna (Lithuania – men’s discus) has set the Olympic Standard several times over – including the world record in April – and is projected to be announced as part of Lithuania’s roster on July 7.
