Maria Lyle has announced she is retiring from competitive athletics after a stellar Para career.
The Scot will have a host of medals and memories to cherish as she now pursues other avenues.
Maria, from Dunbar, won five Paralympic medals and a host of others in World Champs in the sprints. She was a Team Scotland medallist in Australia at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
She actually started out in her journey as long ago as 2014 when in her early teens. Over the intervening decade she was a regular presence in GB and NI teams and a strong role model.
Everyone at scottishathletics wishes Maria all the very best for her next challenge and we are certain those wishes are echoed across the community.
Her Twitter and Instagram profiles describe her as: ‘Your average Scottish lassie with dodgy legs.’
The archived results and online record books across Paralympics, World, European and Commonwealths suggest otherwise:
*Five Paralympic medals (including relays)
*Nine World Champs medals
*Eight European titles
