Herne Hill hosts British Milers Club Record Breaker- Tooting Bec. With prize money up for grabs (£600 for first, £300 for 2nd, £100 for third, £100 for the leading Brit and £50 for the leading U20 athlete) the entry lists are stacked with talent ahead of what promises to be a thriller!
The men’s 800m features 5 athletes who have run under 1:46 (Randolph, Tiernan Crorken, Spencer, J Davies, J Higgins) and a further 19 under 1:50. The stand out for many is sure to be Adam Spencer of Australia who races for the final time before he heads to the Paris Olympics.
The women’s 800m contains strong domestic prowess with 9 sub 2:02 runners (Snowden, K Edwards, Mhlanga, Sanford, J Bromell, Finch, Shanahan, Vans Agnew, I O’Donnell). Katie Snowdon will lead the British interest after her 8th-placed finish in the World 1500m Final last summer.
The men’s 1500m is set to be lightning fast with 10 athletes under 3:36 (Tanner, McGorty, Fogg, Mohad Ali, Copeland, A Davis, Griggs, Beadlescomb, Wigfield, McLuckie) and 29 athletes quicker than 3:40. Fresh off the back of a PB at the London Diamond League over 3,000m (7:36.59), 19-year-old Nick Griggs will receive attention as he competes on British soil again after narrowly missing Olympic selection
The women’s 1500 is just as exciting 6 athletes who have runner under 4:15 (Hughes, Axford, Church, Parker, Rawlings, O’Donoghue). London-based Kate Axford will be the home favourite after her 4th placed finish at the UK Athletics Championships over 3,000m.
The 3,000ms are equally strong with 14 men quicker that 8:15 and 10 women who’ve run sub-9:30, including Welsh duo James Heneghan and Jenny Nesbitt.
