Record Six Huskies Paris-Bound - University of Washington Athletics

SEATTLE – Six Huskies are a week away from standing on the world’s biggest athletics stage, as the Paris Olympic Games have arrived. Five former Huskies, and one current Dawg, Sophie O’Sullivan, are set to compete beginning on August 2. The six representatives in this Olympiad are the most in UW Track & Field program history.

The one advantage for all the Dawgs … the Paris Olympics track surface is purple, matching the Dempsey and Husky Outdoor Track.

Rising senior O’Sullivan will represent Ireland in her first Olympics and run the 1,500-meters.

Also repping Ireland in his first Olympics is 2023 grad Brian Fay, who will race the 5,000-meters.

Another 2023 grad set for his first Olympics is Canadian 1,500-meter Champion Kieran Lumb.

Also racing in the 1,500-meters is Sam Tanner, a Husky from 2020-21, now in his second Olympics for New Zealand.

2019 grad Izzi Batt-Doyle will run the women’s 5,000-meters in her second Olympics for Australia.

Also in her second Olympics after making the finals in Tokyo is 2015 grad Gianna Woodruff, running the 400-meter hurdles for Panama.

The previous high for UW athletes competing in the Olympics was four, both in 2020 Tokyo and in 1972 Munich.
