Duke Track & Field Welcomes Kenyetta Iyevbele to Coaching Staff

DURHAM – Duke Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Shawn Wilbourn announced Friday afternoon the addition of Kenyetta Iyevbele to the coaching staff as an assistant track & field and cross country coach. Iyevbele joins the Blue Devils following a two-year stint as the Head Track & Field/Cross Country Coach at the University of Delaware.

“I am excited to announce that Kenyetta Iyevbele will be joining our team as an assistant track & field and cross country coach,” said Wilbourn. “Coach Iyevbele has an impressive background as a coach and athlete, and she is someone who has the ability to build strong relationships with her student-athletes. As a professional runner, Kenyetta competed professionally for the HOKA NJNY Track Club where she was a multiple time Olympic Trials qualifier.  As an undergrad, Kenyetta competed for NC State and was an All-American in the 800m while running for the Wolfpack. To be clear, I am absolutely thrilled that Kenyetta will be joining our staff and assisting Coach Jermyn with our distance runners.”

Iyevbele took over the reins of the Blue Hen track and field program in September of 2022, after serving as an assistant coach during the 2021-22 season. During her three seasons in Newark, Delaware, Iyevbele guided the track and field team to a runner-up finish at the 2022 CAA Outdoor Championships and helped qualify six athletes to the NCAA East Preliminaries including a program-best five qualifiers in 2023. Additionally, under her guidance, Megan Albamonti captured her third consecutive CAA gold medal in the javelin, garnered CAA Field Athlete of the Year status and advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the first time in her career, earning USTFCCCA All-America Second Team honors.

“I am excited and honored to join Duke University’s track & field and cross country program,” said Iyevbele. “I am eager to work with such a talented group of student-athletes and contribute to the ongoing tradition of excellence at Duke. The privilege of coaching back in my home state is something special that I’ll treasure for a lifetime. Let’s get it. Go Blue Devils!”

Prior to her time at Delaware, Iyevbele spent time (2020-21; 2015-16) as the volunteer assistant coach at her alma mater, NC State University, where she worked alongside two-time United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches…
