The 2024 cross country season has started and MySportsResults presents a preview of our selection of several individuals who we think will contend for a top 10 finish at the Open championship on Thursday, October 31st. We will also list some of the top returners who might place in the top 25 places at the Open to earn a place on the starting line for the New England Championship on Saturday, November 9th at Wickham Park in Manchester. Enjoy our selection of some of the top individual girls who should be in the lead packs this fall.

There are 13 girls who are returning that finished in the top 25 at the Open. Last year was a particularly deep year and it should be equally tough this year as well. MySportsResults will be here the entire season to follow these athletes’ progress and look for the rising stars that are sure to emerge in the next few months.

Brooke Strauss, 12th grade, Glastonbury

Now entering her senior year, Strauss has already built up a hall of fame resume. She was 2nd at the Open as a freshman, won her sophomore year and took the runner-up spot again, following Newington’s Kate Bohlke in the finish chute. She also finished 3rd in New England and just missed Footlocker Nationals with a 13th place finish at Northeast Regionals. She was the State Open and New England 1000m champion indoors and helped her team break the New England meet record in the 4x800m and eventually earned All American in the event. The Guardian brought her 3200m time down to 10:30 outdoors and ran a 4:47.61 mile at NBNO to run the 4th fastest time in state history. At Class LLs she tripled in the 1600m, 800m and 3200m and she also was part of another New England 4x800m team that set the CT record of 9:00.62, good for 7th at NBNO. On top of that she has her most consistent summer training since she started high school.

Tess Sherry, 12th grade, Conard

Last year, Tess Sherry defeated two State Open champions to win the CCC title and was a factor until late in the race for all the championship events. She finished 3rd at the State Open, 4th at New Englands and placed in front of Strauss at Foot Locker Northeast Regional to also just miss Nationals. She was State Open and New England runner-up in the 1600m/ mile indoors. Outdoors she finished 3rd at NBNO, breaking 4:50 for the mile in the process.

Liv Sherry, 12th grade, Conard

Finishing right behind her sister, Liv Sherry was 4th at the…
