Cherotich Claims SEC Women’s Freshman Runner of the Week – University of South Carolina Athletics

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Sept. 3, 2024) – Making her South Carolina Cross Country debut, Teresa Cherotich was able to secure the SEC Women’s Freshman Runner of the Week.

Cherotich was the individual winner of the Covered Bridge Open 5K, recording a time of 17:16.14 for the sixth fastest time in Gamecock history. Cherotich led the Gamecocks with the solo win as South Carolina recorded 16 points for the lopsided victory in the season opener in Boone, N.C. Cherotich finished 30 seconds ahead of her teammate and fellow freshman Mary Frances Iseman who finished second overall.

Cherotich and the rest of the Gamecocks will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 13 when Carolina heads to Greenville, S.C. for the Furman Invitational.
