MADISON, Wis. – The Illinois men’s and women’s cross country teams completed their first race of the 2024 season, the Badger Classic, on Friday (Sept. 6) from the Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course. Senior Daniella Hubble was the Illini’s top finisher in her Illinois debut today, placing third overall in the 6k with a time of 21:13.6.

Sophomore Avril Andre was not far behind Hubble, she placed fourth by recording a new personal-best 6k time (21:13.7). Seniors Halle Hill and Sam Poglitsch crossed at the same exact time (21:14.2) to tie for fifth place and round out the top-3 finishers for the Illini women.

It was a very tight grouping in the men’s 6k with the top-5 Illini being separated by only 0.4 seconds. Senior Tyler Cushing led the way finishing in fifth place with a time of 18:18.3. Fellow senior Anthony Maida followed in sixth (18:18.4), junior Alex Partlow placed seventh with a new personal best (18:18.5), graduate student Joshua Daggett placed eighth (18:18.6) and junior Brady Masters placed ninth (18:18.7).

Four other Illini recorded personal-best 6k times today: junior Shawn Juliette (19:03.6), senior Amalia Malecek (21:50.7), sophomores Mabry Bruhn (22:13.6) and Isabella Daley (22:40.3).
