Wisconsin opens 2024 campaign with Badger Classic victory


MADISON, Wis. – Rowen Ellenberg, Nick Gilles, Johnny Livingstone and Matan Ivri each earned top-four finishes to power the No. 13 Wisconsin men’s cross country team to a victory at the Badger Classic on Friday afternoon at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course. 

Ellenberg, a first-team All-Big Ten honoree last year, ook home his first collegiate cross country win, finishing with a time of 18:13.5.

Freshman Gilles crossed the line at 18:13.5 in his season debut while Johnny Livingston made 

Wisconsin posted 21 points, 14 less than second-place Illinois, as Johnny Livingstone was the third Badger – 3rd runner overall – to cross the line. The  Devon, United Kingdom, native finished at 18:13.8.

Sophomore Matan Ivri placed fourth overall with a time of 18:16.5 to close out the win. Freshman Bryce Stachewicz placed 11th with a time of 18:27.9, while classmate  Zach Temple placed top-15, finishing in 19:23.1. Senior Oliver Paleen placed top-20.

 Up Next: The Badgers will travel to Urbana-Champaign, Illinois for the Big Ten Preview on Sept. 13.
