Kitiyo and Chepkorir win at Birell Grand Prix Prague

Kenyan double at the Birell 10km as Dennis Kibet Kitiyo clocks 27:17 and Diana Chepkorir wins women’s race in 30:12

Kenya’s Diana Chepkorir and Dennis Kibet Kitiyo enjoyed victories at the Birell 10km in Prague on Saturday (Sept 7).

Kitiyo sprinted away from his rivals in the closing stages to win the men’s race in 27:17, while Chepkorir ran from the front in the women’s race, building a big lead and clocking 30:12.

Runner-up in the men’s race, Vincent Kibet Langat, clocked 27:25 and the third was last year’s winner, Ethiopian Tadese Worku in 27:32 as Rodrigue Kwizera finished fourth with 27:39.

“I am very happy because I was the fastest. I tried to push and push but it was really hot. There were better guys than me so I am really very happy to win,” said Kitiyo.

Women’s winner Chepkorir said: “I am very tired but very happy.”

Runner-up Miriam Chebet clocked 31:28 with Ethiopian Lemlem Nibret Alemu third with 32:20.
