World Champion High Jumper Bruus Signs with Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. – World championship high jumper Karmen Bruus has signed with the University of Missouri Track and Field program and will join the team for the upcoming 2025 season, head coach Brett Halter announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Bruus, a freshman, earned a gold medal in the high jump during the 2022 World Athletics U20 Championship after leaping 1.95 meters in the final. The Muraste, Estonia native finished third in the 2024 event, jumping 1.89 meters (6’2.5″). Bruus’ personal best of 1.96 meters (6’5.25″) stands as the U18 world record in the event.

“We are thrilled to welcome Karmen Bruus to our program,” Halter said. “Karmen is an extremely accomplished and hardworking individual who will fit into our culture immediately. As shown through her successes on the world stage, Karmen is one of the best high jumpers internationally and her presence immediately makes us better.”

Following her gold-medal finish in 2022, Bruus was named the Estonian Young Athlete of the Year, marking the first time a high jumper earned the prestigious award. She also finished in seventh at the World Championship event in Eugene, Ore. during the same year.

In addition to high jump, Bruus also competes in long jump (5.96m PB), triple jump (12.22m PB), shot put (10.50m PB), javelin throw (31.14m PB) and various sprints events.
