Panthers Post Strong Showing at Spiked Shoe Invitational


UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Pitt men’s and women’s cross country teams had strong showings at the Spiked Shoe Invitational, hosted by Penn State at the Blue & White Courses, Friday morning.

The women’s team began the morning with a fifth-place finish in the 6K race. Winnie Incorvaia was the first to cross the line for the Panthers, collecting tenth place with a time of 20:43.7. Sadie Carey-Tharp followed closely behind, earning a 19th place finish in 20:57.4. Olivia Bufalini (21:26.3), Camy Kiser (21:35.2), Ellen Baker (21:37.6), and Sarah Hurst (21:55.4) all finished under the 22-minute mark. Hurst, who did not compete the past two seasons, recorded a new personal best. Freshman Ella Cook made her debut for the Panthers, securing 95th place in 22:12.7. Gianna Cagliola recorded a personal best time of 22:21.4 to grab 106th place.

The men’s squad was led by Luke Simpson in 14th place and Sam Otis in 16th place. Simpson posted a time of 25:19.6 and Otis’ pace was 25:29.5. Freshman Thomas McMahon was the third finisher for the Panthers in his first time in the blue and gold, notching 36th place in 25:50.8. Luke Miller took 46th place in 25:57.4. Nolan McGinn, also making his collegiate debut, stopped the clock in 26:05.4 for 60th place. Peyton Geehrer (26:15.5) and Ethan Fingerhut (26:36.2) rounded out the top eight for the Panthers, finishing in 74th and 103rd places, respectively.
