Cheptoo, Kurui Earn Second Consecutive WCC Runners of the Week


PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State cross country freshmen Zenah Cheptoo and Evans Kurui each won West Coast Conference Cross Country Runners of the Week, with Kurui also picking up USTFCCCA Athlete of the Week. It is the second-consecutive competition the pair of freshmen have swept the WCC Runners of the Week awards. 

Kurui continued his dominant start to the season in the WSU Cougar Classic. The freshman finished claimed the top spot in the Cougar Classic, finishing his 8k in 22:46.72, nearly 55 seconds faster than the runner up and broke the course record by 20 seconds. His performance earned him WCC Runner of the Week for the second week and by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Cheptoo earned her second women’s WCC Runner of the Week after her first place finish, finishing with a time of 20:03.98. 

The Cougars will return to action October 4th for the Joe Paine Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
