Cherotich Repeats as SEC Women’s Cross Country Freshman of the Week – University of South Carolina Athletics

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Sept. 17, 2024) – Following her second collegiate cross country meet, South Carolina freshman runner Teresa Cherotich earned her second SEC Women’s Freshman of the Week honor of the season, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.

Cherotich captured her second collegiate win in as many meets on Saturday, this time claiming the individual title at the Furman Invitational to help her team place second. The Kenya native clocked 20:21.1 for the third fastest 6K in Gamecock history en route to her win. Cherotich’s efforts helped propel South Carolina to a runner-up finish at the meet as she fended off the 24th ranked Paladins’ top runners on the individual leaderboard.

Cherotich and the rest of the Gamecocks will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 5 when they travel to Louisville, Ky. for the Live in Lou Classic.
