Chepchirchir and Kipchirchir awarded ACC Male and Female Freshman Performer of the Week honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – On Tuesday afternoon, the ACC announced the recipients of the week four cross country awards.  Virginia Tech collected both freshman performer of the week awards, with Nicholas Kipchirchir capturing the men’s and Sharon Chepchirchir securing the women’s.

Nicholas Kipchirchir claimed the individual title for the men’s 8K race at the Hokie Invitational, collecting his second career win as a Hokie, and setting a personal best of 22:41.9.  The freshman averaged 4:34 per mile and finished 43.4 seconds ahead of the next fastest competitor.  He defeated 46 competitors in the field and earned his third collegiate award.

Sharon Chepchirchir collected her first win in a Virginia Tech jersey, securing the women’s 6K race in 20:55.4 with an average mile of 5:36.6.  She defeated 32 competitors in the field and collected her first collegiate honor with the award.

Kipchirchir, Chepchirchir and the Hokies will be back in action on October 19 at 8:45 a.m. in the Panorama Farms Invitational at Virginia.
