Race Times:

10:30 a.m. – Women’s Blue Division 5,000m Race

11:15 a.m. – Men’s Blue Division 8,000m Race

12:00 p.m. – Women’s Open Division 5,000m Race

12:45 p.m. – Men’s Open Division 8,000m Race

1:30 p.m. – Women’s Gold Division 5,000m Race

2:15 p.m. – Men’s Gold Division 8,000m Race

EAST LANSING, Mich. – 

After a two-week break, the Michigan State cross country team returns to action at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invite in South Bend, Indiana on Friday.
 
There are three 5k women’s races and three 8k men’s races. The women’s Blue race will get the action started beginning at 10:30 a.m. The women’s Blue race features some of the top team in the country, including No. 1 Northern Arizona, No. 3 Notre Dame and No. 6 BYU. Michigan State is currently ranked No. 18.

The men’s Blue race is highlighted by No. 2 BYU, No. 4 Northern Arizona and No. 6 Notre Dame. The Spartan men are currently receiving votes in the most recent USTFCCCA rankings.

Last time out, Michigan State swept both races at the Spartan Invitational on Sept. 13. The Michigan State women started the winning with 28 points, just ahead of Grand Valley State with 31 points. Sophia Lucki was the top Spartan finisher, ending with a time of 21:36.1, while Eleanor Kendall was fourth with a time of 21:39.8. Lucki and Kendall both registered personal bests in the 6K race.

On the men’s side, the Spartans finished first with 23 points, while Grand Valley State was second with 41 points. Alexander Penski finished second (24:43.5), just behind Grand Valley State’s Caleb Futter (24:42.3). Freshman Lezawe Osterink had a strong showing, finishing third with a time of 24:46.5.

Both Spartan teams will have athletes running in the Open races as well.
