Cross Country Completes Paul Short Run at Lehigh


BETHLEHEM, Pa. – In their first meet in three weeks, the University of Pittsburgh cross country teams competed at the 50th Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh University on Saturday morning. The Pitt men posted their second consecutive 6th place finish while the women notched a 13th place team finish.

On the men’s side, the Panthers competed in the men’s gold 8k race and posted a team score of 268 points as they were able to place 6th in a large field of 44 teams.

Senior Quintin Gatons led the way for the Panther pack as he grabbed 34th place out of 394 athletes in the field. Gatons’ time of 24:08.4 is a new personal best. A trio of Panthers also posted top 60 finishes as Luke Miller came in 39th place in 24:13.8, Sam Otis crossed the line in 24:21.2 for 51st place and Thomas McMahon stopped the clock in 24:27.5 for 60th place in just his second collegiate meet. Luke Simpson was the fifth Panther to cross the finish line 24:42.3 for the 91st spot. Miller, McMahon and Simpson also posted personal records on the day.

The women’s team finished ahead of 28 other teams in the women’s gold 6k field for a 13th place team finish with a score of 441 points.

The top finisher for the Pitt women was senior Winnie Incorvaia who recorded a 35th place finish, crossing the stripe in 20:50.5. Sophomores Olivia Bufalini and Camy Kiser had strong outings, finishing close together in 84th and 90th, with times of 21:16.4 and 21:19.2, respectively.

NEXT UP

The Panthers will now have two weeks off before traveling to Wisconsin for Pre-Nationals on Saturday, October 19.
