Cross Country Travels to California for Highlander Invitational

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Arizona Cross Country heads to California this weekend for the Highlander Invitational, hosted by UC Riverside, on Saturday. This competition marks the fourth of the season for the Wildcats and will be their final regular season meet.

The competition will be run at the UCR Agricultural Operations Course, which is a familiar setting for the Wildcats, who have competed in Riverside in each of the past three seasons. The men will run an 8k at 8:00 a.m. MST and the women will run a 6k at 8:40 a.m. MST. Live results for both races can be found here.

The Wildcats were last in action on Sep. 28 for their annual home meet, the Dave Murray Invitational. At the competition, both the men’s and women’s teams placed third overall, with Lydia Russell winning the women’s individual 6k. Russell, who is also on Arizona’s triathlon team, won the competition in her cross country season debut. Runners two through five for the Wildcats were Alisa Lyesina, Brooklyn Hanania, Laina Friedmann, and Laura Holánszky. All five finished in the top 27 of the competition. Over their three meets, the Arizona Women have had three different top team finishers: Russell, Lyesina, and Molly Lakustiak.

On the men’s side, Gideon Mengich finished first for the team and 10th overall. Mengich has been the top finisher for the Arizona Men in all three of their competitions this season. Runners two through five for the men were Michael Urbanski, Cooper Quigley, Ian Sanchez Lopez, and Mateo Pimienta. Urbanski, Quigley, and Sanchez Lopez all finished in the top 20 of the competition.

A meet recap will be posted here detailing the competition results. Live updates will also be posted to @ArizonaTrack on X.
