SEATTLE – Washington Cross Country is back in Madison for the second of what it hopes will be three times this fall. After opening up the season impressively at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational back on Sept. 27, the Huskies will now take part in Saturday’s Pre-Nationals race hosted by the Badgers at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course.

The meet will be streamed live on Runnerspace.com. The women’s “A” race, featuring the Huskies, will go off at 8 a.m. Pacific time, followed by the men’s “A” race, also featuring the Dawgs, at 8:40 a.m. PT. More UW women will compete in the women’s “Open” race at 9:20 a.m.

In its first trip to Madison, the women came out with the victory while the men made a big jump up the national rankings with a fifth-place finish. If the Huskies make the cut for nationals, they’d be back in Wisconsin again on Nov. 23 for the final race of the season.

The UW women go into the race ranked No. 3 nationally and they will be part of another absolutely stacked field, as all of the top-five teams in the latest USTFCCCA coaches poll are in the meet. Northern Arizona, the No. 1 team in the country, enters as the favorite, followed by No. 2 BYU, the Huskies, then No. 4 Notre Dame and No. 5 NC State. Many more top-30 squads will be aiming to upset one or more of the top-five favorites.

The Husky men’s team is currently ranked 13th and it will be holding back its top-four finishers from the Nuttycombe this week, bringing them back for the Big Ten meet in two weeks’ time. The men are bringing a lineup that includes Isaac Briggs, Cruize Corvin, James Crabtree, Thom Diamond, Rhys Hammond, Ben MacMillan, Ronan McMahon-Staggs, and Will Schneider. Only Diamond, Hammond, and McMahon-Staggs ran in the championship race at Nuttycombe last month, with Briggs and Schneider racing in the B race.

The women have 12 women on the trip, so they will be well represented in the “A” and “Open” races. Traveling to Madison are Ella Borsheim, Julia David-Smith, Chloe Foerster, Tori Herman, Saskia Lloyd, Sophie O’Sullivan, Amina Maatoug, Maeve Stiles, Sam Tran, India Weir,
