Spartan Men’s Cross Country Wins Bowling Green Invitational


EAST LANSING, Mich. – In the first of a two-meet weekend, selected Spartans ran in the Bowling Green Cross Country Invitational at the Mel Brodt Cross Country Course in Bowling Green, Ohio.

In the Steve Price women’s 6k race, Michigan State finished sixth with 146 points. The Spartans primarily ran a young group on Friday. MSU’s top finisher was freshman Hannah DeRoeck, who was running unattached, crossing in 14th (22:01.01). Mia Rogan finished 23rd with a time of 22:27.6, which was an improvement on her time at the Spartan Invitational (23:07.8). 

Allison Chimielweski set a new personal best with a time of 22:33.3.

As a team, the Michigan State men finished first with 45 points in the Bob Rothermel men’s 8k race, but the top Spartan finisher was Evan Loughridge who was third with a time of 24:58.2, running unattached. Also running attached was Jasper Cane, who finished fifth (25:03.2). The Green and White’s top scorer was Noah Morrow, who was eighth over all and fifth among attached runners, crossing the line with a time of 25:15.5. 

Joseph Bowman (25:37.5) and Brendan Favazza (25:39.2) both had strong showings for the Spartans. The duo finished 10th and 12th, respectively. Nathan Larson crossed the line in 14th with a time of 25:44.2.

The remaining Spartans are back in action at the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals in Madison, Wisconsin on Saturday, Oct. 19.
