Boire and Lewis to be Honored at Football Game vs. TCU on Saturday

SALT LAKE CITY – In collaboration with Utah Athletics, the Bennion Center for Community Engagement will recognize Vero Boire (cross country and track & field) and Baylor Lewis (swim & dive) during a first quarter break at this Saturday’s football game vs. TCU with the 2024 Utah Athletes in Service Award.

The award recognizes student-athletes with a demonstrated commitment to community engagement. As athletes, the University of Utah community of students, faculty, staff and alumni supports them. In turn, many of them give back to our community in various ways.

“The Bennion Center celebrates and encourages community engagement across the campus. Seeing student-athletes integrate community engagement in their education experience at the U is remarkable,” said Bryce Williams, Bennion Center associate director for Student Engagement & Outreach. “Veronic’s and Baylor’s commitment to engaging with their community exemplifies what it means to be leaders while in the pool or on the track, in the classroom and in the greater community.”

Boire is currently working on her degree on in kinesiology with a minor in business and psychology while Lewis is working on his biology degree with a minor in nutrition. Boire’s community engagement stems from her work through the University of Utah hospital while Lewis works predominantly with the U Fit Program, Veterans Age Golden Games and the Utah Tumbling Academy.

The Utah Athletes in Service Award has been given out since 2015 by the Bennion Center.
