Cross Country to Host Utah Scenic West Open Thursday at Sugar House Park


SALT LAKE CITY – The No. 7-ranked Utah cross country team will host its lone meet of the year, the Utah Scenic West Open, this Thursday, Oct. 24, beginning with the women’s race at 1 p.m. (MT) and followed by the men’s race at 1:45 p.m. at Sugar House Park.

Utah will have a quartet of competitors at Thursday’s meet in Grace Burnett, Josie Fale, Kylie Hartnett and Bri Rinn. This will be the first time any of the Utes on this year’s roster have ran competitively at Sugar House Park.
 
IN THE RANKINGS

After another idle weekend, the Women of Utah remain at No. 6 in the country according to the USTFCCCA National Coaches’ Poll. The three-consecutive weeks of being ranked in the top-10 is the most ever in program history – all at the No. 6 spot. Utah was ranked in the otp-10 back-to-back weeks in the tail-end of the 2021 (Weeks 5 & 6) and 2022 (Weeks 6 & 7) seasons.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Utah captured its second Bill Dellinger Invitational title in four years a couple weeks back behind a quintet of runners finishing in the top-10 led by redshirt sophomore Erin Vringer – who took runner-up honors with a PR run of 19:49.8.
 
Teammate McKaylie Caesar was right behind her with a podium finish at 19:58.0 for third while Morgan Jensen posted a top-5 mark at 20:06.7. Sophomore Katarzyna Nowakowska, who was just out-leaned by Jensen, crossed at 20:06.9 while Anna Peters rounded the top-5 scorers for Utah with a ninth-place run of 20:16.6.
 
Head coach Kyle Kepler‘s teams have now won a major race at least once in four of the last six seasons.
