UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Rutgers cross country closed out the 2024 season at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional at the Penn State Blue/White Golf Courses on Friday afternoon. Brian Pedretti led the Scarlet Knights on the men’s side, while Kelseigh O’Neil was the top finisher for the women’s team.
Â
“I’m proud of the way the team put themselves in the mix today,” said Nicole Starkes, interim associate head coach. “Six of the fourteen student-athletes that represented Rutgers today had not competed at the NCAA Regional meet before.
Â
“It was a true team effort on the women’s side paced by Kelseigh O’Neil, Lorena David and Sofia Condron who were separated by just 13 seconds. On the men’s side, Brian Pedretti and Jack Tavaglione paced the squad. While we were hoping for a little bit more on both sides today, neither team came in ranked in the top 15 so to finish 12th and 15th was improvement on the season.”
Â
Brian Pedretti finished 50th overall, clocking in a time of 31:07.8, followed by Jack Tavaglione who placed 58th in 31:21.2. Dan Pedretti was the third Rutgers runner to cross the finish line with a time of 31:06.8 (103rd), while Liam Tilton (113th; 32:16.3) and Stephen Kyvelos (122nd; 32:30.5) rounded out the scoring for the Scarlet Knights.
Â
On the women’s side, O’Neil ran 21:12.5 to pace the Scarlet Knights, followed by Lorena David, who placed 56th in 21:17.8. Sofia Condron finished 62nd with a time of 21:25.5, while Casey Walter (98th; 21:58.3) and Madison Brown (139th; 22:44.6) closed out the top five finishers for Rutgers.
Â
The men’s squad placed 15th in a field of 27 schools, while the women’s team finished 12th out of 30 competing schools.
