PENN STATE OUTLOOK
The 19th-ranked Penn State women’s team earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship meet following its third-place finish at the 2024 Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships.
The women’s team returns to the championships as a group for the second consecutive season, led by senior Florence Caron. Caron has consistently fronted the women’s group, finishing inside the top five at multiple high-level meets this season, including last week’s Mid-Atlantic Regionals, where she finished fourth. Penn State boasts five All-Region honorees this season, with Hayley Kitching, Sophia Toti, Allison Dougherty, Claire Daniels, and Maddie Ullom joining Caron as top-25 finishers in the Mid-Atlantic region.
As it has done all year, Penn State aims to contend with the top talent in the country and has built its depth to be able to put together a strong outing at this year’s NCAA Championships.
On the men’s side, DiCola earned an at-large bid to this year’s championship meet as one of the top four finishers in the regional meet not on an advancing team. The sophomore put together his strongest races at the end of his campaign and aims to cap off his stellar second collegiate season with a competitive run at nationals.
THE NCAA CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Penn State women return to the NCAA Cross Country Championships for the second season in a row. It is the first back-to-back team appearance for the women’s group since the end of its five consecutive appearances in the national meet in 2018 and 2019. This marks the 25th overall appearance at nationals for the Nittany Lion women.
DiCola earned his first career bid to the championship meet as the first qualifier for the Penn State men’s team since Colin Abert and Timothy McGowan both advanced to nationals in 2017.
